This central England district is also home to some beautiful market towns such as Matlock, Buxton and Bakewell to name just a few. Driving through the National Park you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of beautiful open countryside, punctuated by charming small market towns on our journey north towards the Lake District.
Meals: Dinner
This morning we drive through the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, an area of outstanding natural beauty. It boasts the largest national park in the UK, home to the largest lake and mountain in England and most recently named as a World Heritage Site. We travel to Windermere where we enjoy amazing views from one of the many cruise boats. Later we step back in time to the 1800’s as we climb on board a traditional steam train at the Lakeside station. Continuing our tour we visit The Rum Story, an attraction where we are taken through various settings such as a rainforest and barrel cellar as we hear the story of the UK rum trade. The tour couldn’t be complete without a little tipple! Time permitting, we stroll along the marina and then drive through Keswick before returning to our hotel.
Meals: Breakfast and Dinner
After breakfast we head to the Peak District driving to Castleton, located in the Lee Mam Tor, locally known at the ‘Shivering Mountain’ and one of the most popular and beautifully located villages in the Peak District. As we drive through the dramatic limestone gorge of Winnats Pass we are reminded of the diversity of the Peak District’s breathtaking limestone and gritstone landscapes. We make a short stop here to explore the area before continuing our journey back to London.
